Memorial Day..

Two days I always looked forward to was the subject and Armed Forces Day....everyone except us got the day off.  We stood a parade if we were at home station.  If you have never stood a parade, you don't know what you missed.  But for all my friends and brother airmen who were lost over time, we who served with you will remember you without the artifice of special days. At Sewart, we paraded on the flight line ramp in Class A Blues....always managed to lose several during the ceremony.  Standing at attention or parade rest for extended time can sneak up and cause lack of blood to the brain, resulting in a fall and a skinned face. This time of life, wish I had kept a journal....

Grands are a treasure

Well the oldest grand has made it home safely.  We enjoyed her here in Dumas for the last two weeks...now it's back to Huntsville and work for the Summer and then into her masters program.  Her folks were sad to see her leave, but nests are made small for that very reason.  Hot and windy here in these last days of May...praying for rain in any form or fashion.
Trying to remember, but think it was this time of year when I first got to Sewart AFB, Tenn.  I will always remember I had on Dress Blues and the temperature was up.  Walked from the gate to headquarters with my duffel bag on my shoulder.. no one offered a ride...was about two miles..wish I could still do something like that today.
First assignment was the 314th CAM Sq.  Worked in the inspection dock doing anything no one else wanted to do.  At that time the out-flow valve controlled all the air that left the aircraft.  It had to be cleaned and inspected....Almost everyone smoked in those days and the valve was coated with the most awful viscus liquid you can imagine.  Of course I cleaned it while smoking a cigarette.
Fortunately, the 463rd Wing was coming in from Ardmore AFB, OK and was short of personnel.  More next time.

Stumblin Start

Just trying to get started, thought I would try to ruminate about my past as part of a tactical transport squadron and flying around the world.
