Well the oldest grand has made it home safely. We enjoyed her here in Dumas for the last two weeks...now it's back to Huntsville and work for the Summer and then into her masters program. Her folks were sad to see her leave, but nests are made small for that very reason. Hot and windy here in these last days of May...praying for rain in any form or fashion.
Trying to remember, but think it was this time of year when I first got to Sewart AFB, Tenn. I will always remember I had on Dress Blues and the temperature was up. Walked from the gate to headquarters with my duffel bag on my shoulder.. no one offered a ride...was about two miles..wish I could still do something like that today.
First assignment was the 314th CAM Sq. Worked in the inspection dock doing anything no one else wanted to do. At that time the out-flow valve controlled all the air that left the aircraft. It had to be cleaned and inspected....Almost everyone smoked in those days and the valve was coated with the most awful viscus liquid you can imagine. Of course I cleaned it while smoking a cigarette.
Fortunately, the 463rd Wing was coming in from Ardmore AFB, OK and was short of personnel. More next time.
